Man fighting for his life after a brutal farm attack during which he was tortured and shot in the back
Donovan Marx is fighting for his life in a hospital in Potchefstroom following a brutal farm attack between Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp.
Freedom Front Plus leader Corné Mulder provided details about the attack, including that Marx was tortured.
He was also shot in the back from behind, and doctors were still attempting to remove the bullet this morning.
According to currently available information, a family member left the farm for work shortly before eight o’clock this morning, after which the attack took place.
One of the farm workers was tied up by the attackers, but later managed to wriggle himself free and raised the alarm.
A search for the attackers was launched, but at this stage, they remain at large. As far as is known, they fled the scene taking only Marx’s bakkie.
Mulder said that this was another example of a farm attack which was accompanied by severe violence and torture.
The violent nature of the attacks, he said, shows that they cannot be dismissed as ordinary crimes in South Africa.
“We renew our call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to acknowledge the reality of farm murders and to commit himself to action that prioritises addressing it,” he said.
“The President continues to deny farm murders and refuses to order that their prevention receives special attention.”
“As long as he refuses to put a stop to incitement to attack farmers, such as the singing of the song ‘Kill the Boer’, the attacks will continue.”
Cyril Ramaphosa denies that farm attacks happen at all

Mulder highlighted that President Cyril Ramaphosa has previously denied that farm attacks in South Africa happen at all.
He cited a Bloomberg interview in 2018, where Ramaphosa said that there were no killings of white farmers in South Africa.
During the interview, he was asked about farm murders and President Donald Trump’s claim that the South African government was seizing land from white farmers.
“Whoever gave him that information was completely wrong. There are no killings of farmers or white farmers in South Africa,” Ramaphosa said.
Mulder criticised Ramaphosa and the ANC government for refusing to acknowledge the reality of farm attacks.
“The ANC and Ramaphosa bluntly deny that farm murders exist. However, 3,000 white crosses tell a different story,” he said.
“The ANC and President Ramaphosa bluntly refuse to accept the reality, and then things became worse.”
He further said that when Ramaphosa was confronted with brutal farm attacks by Trump in the Oval Office, he was emotionless.
“The Americans noticed that there was no emotion shown. The documents were simply taken and passed along without any acknowledgement of how awful it is,” he said.
He also criticised the government for not accepting help from the United States to address rural crime and farm attacks.
“The United States wants to assist with rural security, but that seems to be a bridge too far for the ANC,” he said.
Mulder also condemned the public chanting of ‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer’, arguing that targeting a specific segment of society is unacceptable.
“The chant constitutes hate speech, and should be unequivocally denounced by President Cyril Ramaphosa,” he said.
