Secret meeting to start a new Afrikaans party in South Africa

Freedom Front Plus leader Corne Mulder said that there was a secret meeting in Fourways on 6 October 2026 to start a new Afrikaans party.

Mulder shared this information during a debate with Professor Koos Malan on the ‘In Gesprek’ show on KykNet.

Malan argued that the Freedom Front Plus has been moving away from its core identity as an Afrikaans and Afrikaner-interest party.

He said that the party has adopted a new growth strategy and positioned itself as a mainstream opposition party to participate in multi-party coalition dynamics.

As such, Malan said, the Freedom Front Plus has prioritised general governance and coalition politics over its narrow Afrikaner interests.

He compared the Freedom Front Plus’ current direction to the late National Party under FW de Klerk, Roelf Meyer, and Marthinus van Schalkwyk.

He explained that the party’s growing support among other races and cultures has further forced its hands to become more inclusive.

Mulder dismissed this suggestion, saying that Malan is misguided and that the Freedom Front Plus’ foundation has remained unchanged.

“The Freedom Front Plus remains unashamedly rooted in the Afrikaner community and operates from a Christian, centre-right foundation,” he said.

He also dismissed the suggestion that the party followed a path similar to the National Party’s, calling it nonsense.

Commenting on other cultures and races joining the Freedom Front Plus, Mulder said that they join the party because they align with its principles.

“80% of the people in South Africa say they are Christians and stand for traditional conservative values,” he said.

“These are people who oppose the ANC’s position and want to see South Africa move in the right direction.”

As such, the party’s support base is growing without changing its core principles, such as limited government and private property rights.

The party also continues to support decentralisation, self-determination, minority rights, recognition of diversity, and merit.

Secret meeting about starting a new Afrikaans party

Mulder said that Malan’s arguments are sloppy, unscientific, and politically motivated rather than a genuine analysis.

He accused Malan of attempting to alienate the Freedom Front Plus from its traditional Afrikaner voter base for an ulterior motive.

He referenced a secret meeting on 6 October 2026 in Fourways, Johannesburg, about starting a new Afrikaner party.

“Professor Malan can tell us about the meeting on 6 October 2026 in Fourways that just took place,” Mulder said.

“At this meeting, a conversation took place about forming another political party. I wish them all the best.”

“I wish them strength. If a party wants to come that wants to participate in politics in 2029 and go into competition with the Freedom Front, they are very welcome.”

Mulder said that it is unfortunate and unnecessary to start another party for Afrikaners at this stage.

“We need every cooperative vote right now to defeat the ANC. That is what matters to me, and I’m concerned about it,” he said.

Mulder reiterated the view that it was unnecessary to start a competing Afrikaans party. “I think it’s a fatal mistake,” he said.

Malan said that he did not know about the meeting. “I don’t know about the meeting. You tell us about the meeting. You clearly know more about it,” he told Mulder.

We don’t need a Afrikaans or English or Black or Coloured or Christian Party. What we need is a party that is non-racist, believe in free economy, the best man for the job(no BEE), make crime its priority, Unions become less of a force, no corruption, drop laws that is making SA the skunk of the Western World, still do business with the East and make work ethics a priority. We will become the most prosperous country in the world if such a Party should rule.
