US to oppose G20 Leaders’ declaration, and District Six resident wins eviction battle
Today, 18 November, in the Madlanga Commission investigating police corruption, controversial businessman Brown Magotsi is expected to give a testimony.
This is as the commission shifts into phase two, in which those implicated by witnesses in phase one are given an opportunity to respond to the allegations against them.
Magotsi is accused of meddling in police affairs and being a close associate of suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu.
In parliament today, the Ad Hoc committee investigating police corruption will hear from Professor Mary de Haas, after several witnesses, including KwaZulu-Natal provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, mentioned her.
She will be grilled over her role in the directive to disband the political killings task team.
Also in parliament today, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts will continue its enquiry into mismanagement at the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
In the Durban High Court, the trial against Former President Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, will continue. The defence is expected to start its cross-examination.
Zuma-Sambudla stands accused of inciting violence during the July 2021 unrest on social media.
Yesterday, a digital forensics expert told the court that Zuma-Sambudla deleted some of her social media posts after an investigation was launched.
The Rand is trading at R17.20 to the dollar, weakening slightly from R17.10 at the close of business yesterday.
