New polling shows that the DA leads the ANC in Gauteng

Social Research Foundation polling from the first quarter of 2026 shows that the DA leads the ANC in Gauteng.

The Social Research Foundation (SRF) is a South African think-tank established in 2021 to promote democracy and sound public policy.

Its data and advice are made available free of charge to public policy leaders and senior government and related officials.

This data is intended to help them better understand South African society, thereby strengthening South Africa’s democracy, economy, and living standards.

The Social Research Foundation accurately predicted the results of South Africa’s 2024 general elections, which gave it great credibility.

This week, the Common Sense shared the latest polling data from South Africa’s richest province in a social media post.

The Social Research Foundation asked registered voters in Gauteng which party they would support if local government elections were held today.

“Among registered voters, the Democratic Alliance (DA) led with 37%, followed by the African National Congress (ANC) at 31%,” it said.

ActionSA received 7% of the support in Gauteng, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) registered 5%.

“The Gauteng sample is smaller than the national sample, meaning the provincial margin of error is higher,” it said.

“The results should be interpreted as a rough indication of support levels rather than a precise estimate of electoral outcomes.”

The strong DA support shown in the Social Research Foundation polling aligns with the by-election results in Evaton West, Emfuleni, on 27 May 2026.

It narrowly beat the ANC by just 8 votes in what was previously considered an ironclad ANC stronghold.

This is not surprising. Ms Zille has been campaigning incredibly hard and very effectively. I hope she gets rewarded for all her hard work and wins a majority of the votes.

To partner with the ANC or god-forbid the EFF would be a nightmare I don’t wish on my worst enemy.
