The DA is secretly planning coalitions with the ANC – Corne Mulder
Freedom Front Plus leader Corne Mulder said that the DA is most likely secretly planning coalitions with the ANC in major South African cities.
Mulder shared his views on the local government elections in an interview with Alec Hogg from Biznews.
“If I listen to the rhetoric from the Democratic Alliance, they are preparing to form a coalition with the ANC in major metros,” he said.
These metros include eThekwini, better known as Durban, Johannesburg, and Tshwane, known as Pretoria.
“Their strategy looks like they want to be the larger party in these municipalities, and then bring in the ANC as a coalition partner,” he said.
“They think, because they are the bigger party, they can prescribe to the ANC how things will be and that the ANC will accept that. It is a recipe for disaster.”
Mulder issues a challenge to the DA, asking it to commit not to bring the ANC into power. “The DA is dodging that challenge,” he said.
“Voters should know that they cannot vote for a party that will bring the ANC back into power through the back door.”
Mulder’s views on the DA’s potential coalition with the ANC align with comments from Helen Zille, the Democratic Alliance’s mayoral candidate for Johannesburg.
She ruled out coalitions with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the MK Party, and the Patriotic Alliance (PA).
These are three of the largest parties in the City of Johannesburg, which leaves her with few choices to reach a majority.
According to the latest Social Research Foundation poll, the DA has 42% support in Johannesburg, with the ANC at 18%.
The MK Party has 13% support, ActionSA 10%, and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) 8%. These are all unlikely coalition partners.
The ANC would help the DA to reach 50% in Johannesburg and Tshwane, and Zille has never ruled out a coalition with them.
Mulder said that the FF+, unlike the DA, which dismissed many parties as potential coalition partners, are open to discussions with all political parties.
He explained that political leaders cannot ignore one another or attempt to govern from isolated silos.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is sick to death of these minority parties slandering each other. What does the FF+ hope to gain from this. Even if they siphon off a few DA votes, they are still a nonentity in the big scheme of things, and that is not going to change. Just playing into the ANC’s hands. Look what happened the last elections, and learn from it!!!
