AfriForum poses a great danger to South Africa – Edwin Cameron

Former Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron said that ethnicist groups like AfriForum pose a great danger to South Africa.

Cameron shared this view during a discussion on the African Renaissance Podcast hosted by Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

“AfriForum is an ethnicist movement. It’s directed at white Afrikaners,” he explained during the interview.

He pointed to the meeting between AfriForum and March & March, which he said was also described as an ethnicist movement.

On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, a March and March delegation, led by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, met with an AfriForum delegation, including CEO Kallie Kriel.

This engagement, Afriforum said, focused on benefiting communities and citizens at the grassroots level in South Africa.

“During the meeting, unique and shared challenges and interests, as well as possible solutions and cooperation, were discussed,” AfriForum said.

Cameron was not convinced that this meeting or the organisations would benefit South Africans or the country as a whole.

“I would offer a caution about ethnicist movements. Ethnically based movements in our country are a great danger.”

He also commented on the apparent fear white people have in South Africa and the United States refugee programme.

“I do feel scared because of the levels of crime, violence, and robbery, but I don’t feel scared as a white person,” he said.

“There is legitimate debate about all crime figures, like the murder rate, the farm murder rate, but it’s quite clear that the white genocide lie and myth.”

Cameron argued that the white genocide narrative has been seized upon for domestic white male purposes in the United States.

He pointed out that AfriForum has denied that it has ever propagated the white genocide myth.

He added that he does not know where the organisation stands on the United States refugee programme for Afrikaners. However, his view on the issue was clear.

“The refugee programme is ludicrous. Supporting the program is a grave mistake, because the people who accepted that bogus refugee status were misled,” he said.

“I personally feel sorry for them because they are uprooted. They have to adapt to an alien land, and they are not going to be welcomed.”
