The DA has adopted the ANC’s socialist philosophy – Willie Spies

Willie Spies, the Freedom Front Plus’s (FF+’s) mayoral candidate for the Tshwane Metro, said that the Democratic Alliance (DA) has adopted a socialist ANC philosophy.

Spies shared his thoughts about South Africa’s political landscape during a Truth Report interview with host Joe Emilio.

He said that over the last three decades, South Africa has evolved into a deep state with regulators all over the place.

“All those regulators make rules, and they create a divide between the ruling regime and civil society,” he said.

He said that the Democratic Alliance has also adopted the socialist ANC philosophy, empowering the state to control every aspect of society.

He singled out the former DA leader and Agriculture Minister, John Steenhuisen, and his handling of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.

“If you look at the way John Steenhuisen is running his department, he supports the concept of a deep state,” he said.

“This is the concept that the state has the last say about every single thing that happens, even the way a farmer treats his cattle.”

“That philosophy, which is a socialist ANC philosophy, has become part of the philosophy of our official opposition.”

He added that it extends to other departments, including the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT).

DA Minister Solly Malatsi is in charge of this department, which Spies said is oppressing civil society through regulations.

He explained that the DA’s philosophy used to be one where state powers needed to be curbed and the private sector empowered.

“I would have expected the DA minister to curb state powers and to use the philosophy where he comes from,” he said.

“Personal liberties, private liberties, and community liberties are important, and we should nurture them.”

Spies said that he sees less and less of personal and private liberties in the way South Africa is governed, even under the Government of National Unity.
