OUTsurance outperforms Discovery and Sanlam

OUTsurance’s share price has outperformed its peers, Discovery and Sanlam, in 2025 year-to-date. However, it remains a close race.

OUTsurance Holdings was founded in 1998 by Willem Roos, Howard Aron and René Otto, with the full backing of RMB Holdings.

The company initially focused on providing short-term insurance direct to the public and became known for its aggressive marketing campaigns.

In 2008, Youi, modelled on OUTsurance, was launched in Australia, offering short-term personal lines insurance.

Two years later, in 2010, OUTsurance Life was established in South Africa, providing basic and underwritten life insurance products.

In 2022, OUTsurance Group was listed on the JSE as part of a transition and rebrand of Rand Merchant Investment Holdings (RMI).

Since its listing, the OUTsurance share price has had a fantastic run. This run continued over the last year, increasing by 24%.

In 2025 year-to-date, the OUTsurance share price increased by 11%, outperforming most of its peers in the insurance market.

This does not come as a surprise. Many analysts view OUTsurance as a good investment with excellent long-term prospects.

Grant Nader from Benguela Global Fund Managers explained that OUTsurance is a high-quality business at a fair price.

“You can hold onto the stock. They have a great runway for growth in Australia. They have a good track record and are growing well there,” he said.

“They also remain a strong player in South Africa and have an Irish growth avenue into which they are deploying capital.”

He said OUTsurance is a good business with a strong management team, along with a clear path of where revenue growth will come from.
