The entire business model of the ANC is to loot – Geordin Hill-Lewis

DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said that the entire business model of the ANC, with its tentacles in every aspect of the state, is one of looting.

He shared his views on South Africa’s current political landscape during a discussion at the 2026 Biznews Conference at the Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg.

Hill-Lewis referenced the Madlanga Commission, which he said is doing a wonderful service to South Africa.

“All of us have a good sense that it is a deeply corrupted state. Every time we see new examples of just how severe it is, it remains shocking,” he said.

“As South Africans, you might think you no longer have the capacity to be shocked, but this has shocked us all.”

He said that the commission does a great job at exposing more of the corruption linked to the ANC and its cadres.

“While I am deeply grateful for the exposure, I want to know where it leads and what the outcome will be, similar to other commissions of inquiry,” he said.

He claims there was political interference by the suspended police minister, Senzo Mchunu, who is still on full pay.

“There was political interference in policing work. I can provide ‘chapter and verse’ from my own experience regarding that interference,” he said.

He praised General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for exposing the rot in the South African Police Service, which set the stage for the Madlanga Commission.

“I have no doubt that what General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleged is the absolute truth,” Hill-Lewis said.

“However, he has gone way beyond those initial allegations to expose so much more, and I think we can all be grateful that he has done so.”

Hill-Lewis said that turning around the South African Police Service (SAPS) is at least a 10-year project. This will also require removing the current leadership.

“This turnaround requires individuals of integrity and ethics with a strong service orientation who are willing to put their shoulder to the wheel,” he said.
