The companies linked to Paul Mashatile’s son, Thabiso Mashatile

Thabiso Mashatile, the eldest son of South Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, is a director or former director of 13 companies.

Mashatile had a privileged upbringing and matriculated from the prestigious St Stithians Boys College in 2011.

He subsequently earned a B.Comm in Economics and Finance from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and has completed further studies in property development.

He started his career at the South Zambezi Construction Consultancy and Sanlam Employee Benefits.

He then completed a graduate trainee program in marketing at British American Tobacco South Africa (BATSA) at the end of 2019.

He was then promoted to junior manager and held that position until the end of 2020, after which he began pursuing business interests.

Mashatile is listed as a director or former director of 13 companies and serves as the chief executive officer of the Manzi Mashatile Foundation.

The foundation, founded by Paul Mashatile, works to empower youth, women, and communities in South Africa and to promote equality.

The foundation states that Mashatile is a born communicator with excellent trade marketing knowledge.

They added that he is an avid cook, gym, cars, and gaming fanatic, and is responsible for the development of the Foundation’s strategy.

He also looks at the overall functioning of the Foundation, ensures proper operations and implementation of programmes and projects, and its financial viability.

Thabiso Mashatile under siege

Thabiso Mashatile has been under the spotlight for his business dealings, which many believe are linked to his father’s political power.

In July 2025, the Democratic Alliance called for an investigation into two companies linked to him.

These companies were paid R36.4 million for fire suppression and detection systems, but they failed to prevent the recent fire at Tembisa Hospital.

The Freedom Front Plus has also requested that the Public Protector expand its investigation into Gauteng government contracts.

The focus should be on companies where Mashatile served as a director, citing suspicious circumstances surrounding the timing of his appointments.

News24 reported in February 2026 that Thabiso Mashatile personally signed a bid submission register for a company called Modipadi Nokaneng.

The company later changed its name to 0711 Stuttgart and submitted for a lucrative R836 million oxygen plant tender.

He is also linked to the R37 million Waterfall Equestrian Estate mansion where his father, Paul Mashatile, stays.

It should be noted that there are no indications that Thabiso Mashatile is corrupt or has been found guilty of wrongdoing.

A recent report suggests that the Public Protector will clear a deal involving him and his brother in a deal with the Gauteng’s Department of Infrastructure Development.
