Zuma’s daughter linked to ‘trapped’ MK members, and Bok named World Player of the Year

Today, 24 November, the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, is expected to continue testifying before the Nkabinde Inquiry investigating suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Adv. Andrew Chauke’s fitness to hold office.

Last week, Batohi gave insight into allegations she made about Chauke obstructing key criminal prosecutions and shielding high-profile individuals from facing justice. 

In the Western Cape High Court, the alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack will be cross-examined today. 

Modack and 14 others are facing 122 charges related to crimes such as murder, attempted murder, extortion, money laundering and fraud. 

In the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, two suspects arrested by the Hawks in connection with bribery and corruption at Tembisa Hospital will appear today after being arrested on Sunday.

The suspects include a police official attached to the Hawks and a Tembisa Hospital official. The arrest comes after the hospital official attempted to bribe the Hawks member with R100,000 to avoid prosecution.

Both the Ad Hoc parliamentary committee and the Madlanga commission investigating police corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system are adjourned for today. 

Tomorrow, the Ad Hoc Committee will resume proceedings at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility, where they will hear the testimony of controversial tenderpreneur Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala from behind bars. 

The Rand is trading at R17.36 to the dollar.
