ANC struggle heroes are incapable of running South Africa – Mbeki

Political analyst Moeletsi Mbeki says the ANC leaders who brought liberation to South Africa cannot run a complex country like South Africa.

Mbeki is one of South Africa’s most respected political analysts, authors, and entrepreneurs, and serves on the boards of numerous companies.

He shared his views about South Africa’s economy and political landscape on the Palatable Politics podcast last week.

He said the older generation ANC leaders who led the organisation in the struggle against apartheid are incapable of running South Africa.

“Understandably, there were many limitations in the capabilities of the old generation of ANC leaders,” he said.

“They led the struggle against apartheid, and they got us a democracy at the end. That was a huge achievement.”

However, it has become clear that they are incapable of running a complex economy and society like South Africa.

“The ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has admitted that. That is why he stood up at UNISA and asked citizens to find a solution,” Mbeki said.

He referred to the address by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the First National Convention of the National Dialogue held at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

During his address, he asked numerous questions, including why South African women have to live in fear of men.

He also asked why so many people live in abject poverty and so few live lives of opulence, and why the prospects for a white child are so much better than those of a black child.

He further asked why women get paid less than men for the same work, why LGBTQI+ people are discriminated against, why clinics run out of medicine, and why taps run dry.

“These are some of the questions that we must be willing to ask and which we must be prepared to answer,” Ramaphosa said.

Mbeki said that although Ramaphosa should be credited with acknowledging that he does not know the answers, it also questions his ability to lead the country.

“It is clear that the ANC President admitted that they do not know how to solve South Africa’s problems,” he said.

“You should tell Ramaphosa that he should pack his bags and leave the Union Buildings and hand the reins to somebody who knows how to solve the problems.”

When the ANC came to power in 1994, all thing worked in most if not all municipalities. Immediately after the ANC took over they replaced all white Mayors and Municipal managers with cadres. I saw them arriving for work at between 9h00 and 10h00, sat and did nothing because they knew nothing and then leave for lunch at 12h00 and more often than not did not return again. This was soon followed by technicians, engineers and other qualified workers, now our useless President says he does not know how to fix things and is asking for advice from the public. Problem is he does not heed advice and persist in the failed BEE nonsense. I’m afraid they just do not have the ability to manage a modern society, no matter who you want to replace him and his cadres with. It is too late!
