New shopping centre with unique facilities in South Africa’s most successful security estate
A new retail centre, Shopping on Eastway, will open in Midstream Estate on 1 October 2026, introducing a vibrant shopping and lifestyle destination.
Midstream Estate, a fully-fledged security town, is one of South Africa’s largest and most successful residential enclaves.
Established in 2003, it has grown into a self-contained town with schools, hospitals, churches, sporting facilities, offices, and old age homes.
There are already two shopping centres in Midstream Estate, Square@Midstream and Shopping on Ridgeway.
Shopping on Eastway will complement these two retail centres, offering clients a mix of established brands and specialist retailers.
Stores include Midstream Flowers & Gift Co, Eye-trend Optometrists, Fine Linen, the luxury spa and salon, Polished, and Conditioned Hairdressing.
Polished will offer nail, braiding, hair, lashes, and makeup services alongside a collection of fashion pieces and aftercare products.
Another store, Trendy Gadgets, will offer a range of new and certified-refurbished devices, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, and gaming consoles.
Clean as a Whistle Laundry Hub will open at Shopping on Eastway on 1 October 2026, bringing a community-driven laundry service to Midstream.
Another addition is the Maple Ridge Spur, which will launch with Shopping on Eastway to serve Midstream families.
The Spur will have the usual offerings, like a large kiddies’ play area, along with a dedicated date-night section for couples and adults.
Shopping on Eastway will also feature a children’s play area where children can explore, create, and develop essential skills.
The area is positioned between restaurants to make it easy for parents to watch their children while they play.
Healthcare and office facilities
A unique feature of the new Shopping on Eastway centre is Eastway Medical, offering access to many healthcare and wellness professionals.
It will offer general practitioners, physiotherapists, biokineticists, dental studios, psychologists, and IV therapy.
There will also be a range of health and wellness services, designed to deliver convenient, integrated and holistic care close to home.
Eastway Medical, founded by Dr Schalk Augustyn, Dr Linda Welthagen, and Melinda Augustyn, will open on 1 October 2026.
This medical centre will be complemented by The Local Choice Pharmacy Midstream, which will offer professional pharmacy expertise to clients.
“This pharmacy is a trusted, approachable, and familiar space where residents feel connected, supported, and cared for,” it said.
The new retail precinct will also feature a modern office block that stands adjacent to the retail shopping centre.
A 7-storey office block also forms part of the project scope, creating an integrated environment where retail, work and entertainment come together in one destination.
The architects, ARC Pretoria, said that the new development will offer unparalleled access to dining, wellness, and retail amenities.
