SIU to probe SA Tourism Board, and many left homeless by KZN rains and floods

Today, 25 November, the parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption will visit the Kgoši Mampuru Correctional Centre in Tshwane to hear the testimony of controversial tenderpreneur, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The Madlanga Commission on police corruption is set to resume today with an unnamed witness. It is expected that the witness will provide evidence on the arrest of murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe in December 2024. 

Also sitting in parliament today, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts will continue with its enquiry into the financial affairs of the Road Accident Fund (RAF). The Committee has reserved today for the testimony of former RAF CEO Collins Letsoalo.

However, the committee has not been able to confirm Letsoalo’s attendance. He has been issued a summons, but all attempts to contact the former CEO have failed. If he does not arrive, the committee said it will deliberate on the way forward. 

In the Durban Magistrate’s court, two brothers who stand accused of the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane will appear for the second time today. 

The accused, Siyabonga and Melusi Ndimande, were extradited from eSwatini two weeks ago in connection with several high-profile murder cases. 

The Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindiswe Chikunga, will launch a 16-day campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) today in Midrand. 

The event will bring together Filmmakers, Media Professionals, Civil Society, Academia, Research, Development Partners and government to create a shared agenda for combating GBV.

The Rand is trading at R17.30 to the Dollar today, remaining almost flat from R17.31 at the close of business on Monday.
