Milei to skip the G20, and Lesufi’s crime wardens face unemployment

Today, 13 November, the Rand is trading at R17.09 to the dollar, strengthening from R17.14 yesterday afternoon, following a positive reaction to the Medium-term Budget Policy Statement.

In parliament, the Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations of police corruption will hear evidence from Cedrick Nkabinde, the Chief of Staff of the suspended Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu.

He is expected to face questioning about his role in leading Mchunu’s directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) last December.

In the Pretoria High Court today, the Senzo Meyiwa trial is continuing with the testimony from its second witness, Absolom Zungu.

Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain. Zungu is the father of key witness Constable Sizwe Zungu.

In the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court, five suspects arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Westbury last month will resume their trial.

The five accused, including a 17-year-old boy, are expected to make formal bail applications after they have spent a week in custody.

The National Prosecuting Authority announced yesterday that the inquest into the death of anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko has been adjourned untill 30 January 2026.

This is after the prosecution informed the court that two persons of interest in the matter, former police officers, are still alive and have applied to the state to fund their legal representatives.

Biko died in 1977 after he was allegedly tortured to death by the apartheid regime’s Special Branch, though no one was prosecuted for his death.

Here are five other big things happening in South Africa today:
