ActionSA and ANC in coalition discussions

National Chairperson of ActionSA, Michael Beaumont, said that they had a productive and mutually respectful engagement with the ANC.

He shared this information ahead of the official announcement of the 2026 local government election results by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

The IEC will announce the final election results from the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand at 18:00 on Sunday, 8 November 2026.

Although the final results have not been announced yet, most voting districts have reported their results, which showed a strong performance by ActionSA.

In Gauteng, ActionSA achieved 17% of the vote. This included 22% in Tshwane, 16% in Johannesburg, and 19% in Ekurhuleni.

The ANC, in turn, received 22% of the vote in Gauteng, which includes 20% in Johannesburg, 20% in Tshwane, and 22% in Ekurhuleni.

That means that a partnership between ActionSA and the ANC will take them a long way to achieving a majority in these major Gauteng metros.

Many people have called for a coalition between the DA and ActionSA. However, this is unlikely to happen due to animosity between the two parties.

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said that his mission was to take support away from the DA and ANC.

“There are two political parties, the ANC and the DA, where we are on a mission to put them in the dustbin,” he said.

“The ANC is a corrupt organisation funded by DA funders. The DA is a racist organisation. It does not care about poor people,” he said.

Renowned political analyst Frans Cronje said that the relationship between the DA and ActionSA is so strained that coalition talks will most likely fail.

He likened it to a nuclear meltdown, with friction and competing strategies between Helen Zille’s DA leadership and Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA.

He explained that this friction will complicate efforts to achieve an agreement between the two parties.

Coalition discussion between ActionSA and the ANC

Fikile Mbalula and Michael Beaumont

On Sunday, 8 November 2026, ActionSA national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, met with his counterparts from the ANC.

The ANC delegation included the secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, and the deputy secretary general, Nomvula Mokonyane.

“ActionSA has concluded a productive and mutually respectful first engagement with the ANC,” Beaumont said.

“During the meeting, we discussed principles around how stable and effective coalition governments could be formed.”

Beaumont added that ActionSA remains committed to engaging all parties in the same constructive manner.

ActionSA has previously said that its coalition talks will focus on its core principles, including zero tolerance for corruption and ethical governance.

The party also insists on strict enforcement of the rule of law, with an emphasis on addressing illegal immigration and municipal law enforcement.

They emphasised that coalition partners must prioritise public service delivery, such as reliable water, electricity, and waste management, over party-political positioning.

Mashaba warned prospective partners not to waste their time if they intend to put political agendas ahead of serving poor residents.
