IT company receiving multimillion-rand contracts employed children of senior municipal officials
The City of Ekurhuleni faces serious allegations of irregular ICT contracts, questionable payments, and corruption within its IT department.
It is at the centre of an investigation involving irregular contracts, systemic nepotism, and a billing fraud scheme that has resulted in a revenue crisis.
On 1 June 2026, the Democratic Alliance (DA) laid criminal corruption charges against the former Ekurhuleni City Manager and her alleged bankroller.
DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, said that billions of public funds have been looted while service delivery collapses.
Since the DA laid these criminal charges, further information has come to light about questionable activities at the city.
On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the Sunday Times reported that there was nepotism and contempt for the law in the Ekurhuleni Municipality.
The report said that an IT company contracted by the City of Ekurhuleni employed the children of senior municipal officials while receiving multimillion-rand contracts.
This situation raised concerns about nepotism and conflicts of interest at the City of Ekurhuleni Metro.
The case forms part of wider allegations of irregular ICT contracts, questionable payments, and corruption within the municipality’s IT department.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) released a statement, saying that it will add these revelations to its criminal case related to the issue.
“We have already laid criminal charges against the former City Manager in Ekurhuleni due to other allegations of corruption,” it said.
It added that the latest revelations are only the beginning of the unravelling spider’s web of deceit, corruption, and impunity.
It argued that the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s systems have been corrupted and are now characterised by a culture of impunity.
“A system of self-enrichment at the expense of the residents of Ekurhuleni has taken root, and we must take action against it,” it said.
Well done to the DA. We need more of this.
Take them to court and hopefully one day these criminals will have to serve jail time.
