The ANC gets new spin doctors

The African National Congress (ANC) has announced that Nonceba Mhlauli and Zuko Godlimpi will serve as acting national spokespersons.

On Sunday, 14 June 2026, the political party announced that its national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, is on special leave of absence to attend to her health.

Bhengu-Motsiri was appointed to this full-time role in January 2023, succeeding Pule Mabe as ANC spokesperson.

Before her appointment, she was elected as a member of the ANC’s 80-member NEC at the party’s 55th National Conference in December 2022.

She served on the ANC’s internal Renewal Commission and was appointed to the inaugural board of the O.R. Tambo School of Leadership in 2019.

Based out of the party’s Luthuli House headquarters, her term runs alongside the current National Executive Committee (NEC) until 2027.

It has deployed National Executive Committee members, Mhlauli and Godlimpi, to serve jointly, with immediate effect, as acting national spokespersons.

“This deployment will ensure continuity in the movement’s communication work and the effective articulation of ANC policies, programmes and positions,” it said.

“They bring considerable organisational experience and a deep understanding of the movement’s strategic objectives.

The ANC extended its best wishes to Bhengu-Motsiri and wished her a speedy and full recovery. “The movement looks forward to her return,” it said.

It called on all structures, members, supporters, media practitioners and stakeholders to afford the acting national spokespersons their full cooperation.
