Dead body found on government property in South Africa
The Department of Employment and Labour’s Seshego Labour Centre in Limpopo has become a crime scene after a corpse was discovered on the premises.
The Department confirmed that a dead body was found on the property on Saturday, 24 January, outside of normal operating hours.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) was immediately alerted. The matter is being treated as a police investigation, and forensic processes are underway,” said the Department.
Furthermore, the Department has admitted that this is the second time in two weeks that the property has been at the centre of potential crime incidents.
Last week, there was a case of theft reported at the offices involving infrastructure, which SAPS is also in the process of investigating.
“At this stage, no conclusions can be drawn, and all circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to official investigation,” said a departmental spokesperson.
The labour centre has been secured by police, and access is being managed in line with investigative requirements.
The Department is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and is awaiting the outcome of the investigation before making further comment.
Further information will be provided once a comprehensive report has been compiled by the Province and police work has been concluded.
The South African Police Service has not yet revealed further information about the investigation.
