Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti crushed Anglo American, BHP, and Glencore

Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti have benefitted from gold’s strong performance in 2025, helping them to outperform Anglo American, BHP, and Glencore.

Gold Fields, headquartered in Johannesburg, is one of the world’s largest gold mining companies with nine mines in Australia, Canada, Chile, Ghana, South Africa and Peru.

Gold Fields is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

AngloGold Ashanti is a global gold mining company with a diverse, high-quality portfolio of operations in 10 countries across four continents.

AngloGold Ashanti has its primary listing on the NYSE and secondary listings on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE).

These two mining giants have benefited tremendously from the gold price, which has soared to record highs in 2025.

The gold prices surged past $3,900 per ounce to a record high on Monday, 6 October 2025, driven by investors seeking the safe-haven asset.

Economic and geopolitical uncertainty, coupled with a weakening U.S. dollar and lower interest rates, have helped to support the gold price.

Strong central bank buying and global demand from investors seeking portfolio diversification have also been strong.

The continued uncertainty around tariffs, geopolitical instability, and concerns about potential economic deterioration further fuel demand for gold.

All of this is music to Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti’s ears, which have seen their share prices soar along with the gold price.

These two companies significantly outperformed other mining giants like Anglo American, BHP, and Glencore.
